Femininity Is Power
with Yves Saint Laurent as inspiration
What inspires me the most about Yves Saint Laurent’s work is the way he was able to liberate and empower women. It is fair to say that a lot has changed since the time he was active as a designer and i believe that clothing can be designed to empower woman in a different way today. I want to be able to empower women by the use of feminine characteristics. My collection is designed for the confident, comfortable, unconfined, sexy and free modern woman. I have tried to achieve this by being inspired by empowering the female figure. The collection plays with the idea of the deconstructed bra which is related to the concept of women being unconfined. Also, Yves Saint Laurent’s way of being inspired by and collaborating with artists that use different mediums than fashion interests me a lot. For my collection I have taken inspiration from Brian Rochefort’s sculptural ceramic work. I believe his contemporary ceramics works have made a traditional method of creation more modern, resulting in contemporary works of art. What Brian Rochefort did to traditional ceramics I am going to do with Yves Saint Laurent. I have been inspired by his traditional take on empowering women and am now pushing it further into more relevant times.
